This is Phoebe. Phoebe is a calico, American Short Hair cat, otherwise known as a "meow mix." She's almost 11 pounds, and as far as we know, she was born around September 1998.

Gina and I wanted a pet, and the townhouse we were renting at the time allowed pets, so when Gina saw in the newspaper that Most Valuable Pets (a local pet supply store that features animals from the Humane Society) had kittens, we decided to stop by. We found Phoebe and Schroedinger there, and took them both home. We decided on two cats instead of just one so they could keep each other company, and on early January 1999 we became cat owners.
Phoebe was supposed to be Gina's cat, and since she liked the name the Humane Society gave her, Gina decided to keep it. Phoebe didn't really care about our intentions, though. Phoebe is my cat without question. She likes to sit in my lap when she decides that it's okay -- picking her up to pet takes some convincing. She is a very nervous cat, and we suspect that she was a stray that the humane society picked up. She is nervous about meeting new people, and usually hides under our bed when we have company.
Phoebe is the smartest cat we have. She has learned how to open cabinet doors (and get bags of catnip out from them). I have said before that if she had thumbs she'd be dangerous. Phoebe is also conscientious about cleaning, and bathes often; she keeps Schroedinger and Smokey clean, too.
All of our cats have some things in common. They all are rescued kittens, they all stay indoors exclusively, and they all have the Avid Friendchip installed. They also get a steady diet of Iams food -- no table scraps; table scraps make for stinky cats that might not make it to the litter pan in time.
